BOREIN, Edward.
GUEST BOOK FOR THE 7X RANCH
Bound manuscript with signatures, no place (Paso Robles, CA), or date, circa 1930s, 80 pages, quarto, with hundreds of signatures of visitors, with addresses and comments on their visits. Notable among these are "Edward and Lucille Borein, September 1, 1930" with an ink sketch of a cowboy roping a steer. Borein made a return visit on January 22 and again signs the register and notes "lots of dust today," and adds a typical thumbnail sketch. Another notable entry is from Western artist Joe de Young, who visits on October 12, 1935. De Young includes a sketch and an autograph signed statement. "I landed here after dusk so I don't know what the country looks like, but I sure like the way it feels." Borein's wife Lucille pens "My body has been feasted. My mind has been rested. My soul filled with the place and beauty of your hills and trees. We hope to come again. Lucille E. Borein. Santa Barbara." The 1600 acre 7X ranch was located in the Santa Lucia Mountains and offered fishing, hunting and a general good time. Owned by the MacGillivray family, it boasted the very best of the great California outdoors. The lot includes a postcard from the ranch on the verso of which is written "This is our ranch where we hosted Ronald Reagan. We no longer cater to the public Fraser."
