NOTES:
1. Colophon by Gao Shiqi starts with a poem which details Fan Kuan's life and his art. The colophon ends by Gao saying that this scroll was collected by him in Beijing, and has accompanied him for some thirty years.
2. Colophon by Li Zaixian explains the difference in the name this scroll was recorded by Gao Shiqi in his Jiangcun Xiaoxia lu. The scroll came into the collection of a Mr. Feng after Gao Shiqi died. It was burnt in a fire, leaving only the end portion, but luckily retaining Gao Shiqi's colophon to identify it. It was also said that the inscription immediately following the painting was by Mi Fu, but Li disputes this attribution for lack of any substantiating evidence.
3. Colophon by Naito Kona Torajiro confirms the attribution of this scroll to Fan Kuan, stating that due to the fire damage, this scroll has lost quite a large part of the many features with which it was distinguished and recorded in Ruan Yuan's Shiqu Suibi.
