Lot Essay
The present sauce-boat stand was made for a service given by Louis XV to Queen Marie-Caroline of Naples and the Two-Sicilies upon the birth of her daughter Charlotte Louise for whom the king stood as godfather. Examples from this service are in the collections of the Louvre and the musée des arts décoratifs. Cf.
