Lot Essay

This derives from Alsloot's picture of 1612, in which the staffage is by Hendrick de Clerck (1570-1629), in the Musée Royaux des Beaux-Arts, Brussels, inv.no.3458 (Koninklijke Musea voor Schone Kunsten, 1984, p.4, ill.).
The Groenendaal Abbey is in the Zoniën-wood in Brussels.
