Plates by Robert Smirke AND EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED WITH OVER 1,500 ETCHINGS, ENGRAVINGS, MEZZOTINTS, AQUATINTS AND MAPS, 18th-20th century, some india proofs mounted, some inlaid, hand-colored or folding. (Occasional pale spotting.) Sea green crushed levant morocco, the covers with single- and double-fillet border; spines in six compartments, with five raised bands, gilt-lettered in two, an richly gilt ornament panel centering a floral device with leaf sprays; board edges gilt-ruled; turn-ins richly gilt; crimson paper endleaves; edges gilt, by Riviere (spines slightly toned).
