Lot Essay

Liu Haiming was born in Shanxi in 1954, and studied at the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing. He concentrated on the art of woodblock prints and engravings. For several years he held a position as teacher at the College of Art and Culture in Shanxi. In the years 1980-86, he had several group exhibitions in China, Hong Kong and Japan. At the invitation of the Aberdeen Peacock Printmakers, Liu Haiming visited Aberdeen and stayed in Europe. In the same year, he had his first one-man exhibition in England and his first three prints were acquired by the British Museum. In 1989 he visited the famous Masereel Engraving Studio in Belgium. During the following years he participated in several international group exhibitions and staged five one-man shows in museums and galleries in England. Meanwhile he has continued to broaden his artistic scope and include other media such as oil painting.
