Lot Essay

We are grateful to Dr. Hans-Ulrich Beck for the attribution, given from photographs and from earlier inspection of the picture in the original. Dr. Beck notes that he had formerly considered the picture possibly to be by François van Knibbergen, but that he now feels that the handling of the figures and the landscape would suggest rather the authorship of Van der Laeck.
