The Supper at Emmaus, which Mortari dates in this case to circa 1615 (loc. cit.), was a subject that Strozzi repeated through his career in more than one version. The present picture corresponds closely to that in the Rondinella Collection, Genoa, albeit with minor variations and on a slightly larger scale. Both works set themselves apart from his remaining versions, with the placement of Christ on the right of the table and the addition of the bald Apostle.
