Lot Essay

Colonel Ayrton Pullan was an officer serving in the Bengal Army. In 1863 he joined the Great Trigonometrical Survey and was engaged in surveys in the Himalayas, Kathiawar, Kutch and Gujarat. The India Office Library holds a drawing by the artist possibly made during the Great Trigonometrical survey of Kashmir, 1866-68. (See P.
