Lot Essay

Born in Moscow and studying there under Savitskii, Arkhipov and Korovin, Iuon joined Serov's studio in 1898. His brightly-lit scenes of village and city life were exhibited widely, including in the Wanderers' and World of Art exhibitions, while the artist travelled periodically and widely in western Europe. After the revolution his works continued to be appreciated and exhibited often both at home and abroad.
