Lot Essay

The only known record of the artist is that found in the catalogue of the Museum of Dunkerque, in which mention is made of a Letellier -- with the dates 1668-1694, but with no first name -- as the painter responsible for a composition of roses, a skull and a shell (see M. Faré, La Grand Siècle de la Nature Morte en France: le XVIIe siècle, Fribourg, 1974, p. 156).
