A GEORGE III GOLD-MOUNTED SHAGREEN NÉCESSAIRE
English, circa 1760/1770
Slightly tapering flattened rectangular shagreen-covered case with rounded sides and slightly arched top and flat base, overlaid with a stamped and pierced gold cagework decorated with reeded scrolls, foliate festoons, a crane and an eagle, reeded gold mounts with hinge at the short end, gold button pushpiece, the inside fitted with steel scissors with gilt-metal handles, two-leaved tablets, a folding knife with gold piqué-inlaid dark composition handle and steel blade, a steel ear-spoon with bodkin handle, wooden pencil (tweezers missing)
