Lot Essay

William Aubrey de Vere, 9th Duke of St Albans, bore the sceptre with the cross at the Coronation of King William IV. He married Harriet (d. 1837) widow of Thomas Coutts and daughter of Matthew Mellon, Lieutenant Madras Infantry in 1827 and secondly Elizabeth Catherine, youngest daughter of Major-General Joseph Gubbins of Stoneham, Hampshire and Kilfrush, co. Limerick in 1839 and had issue.
