Lot Essay

The Order of the Union, founded in November 1807 by Louis Bonaparte, King of Holland, was abolished in 1811. Another miniature by Autissier depicting an officer wearing this order is illustrated in the exhibition catalogue Autissier et le portrait miniature romantique en Belgique, Brussels, Kredietbank Gallery, 1997, no. 15.
