Woven in wools and silks with a central armorial cartouche of a rampant lion and a rose, within a black ground surround of tulips and other flowers, within a yellow outer slip, minor areas of restoration, especially to black background and outer edges

Lot Essay

A tapestry panel depicting a scene from the Old Testament set within a floral ground that is related to that of this panel is in the National Museum of Copenhagen and attributed to the region of Schleswig-Holstein in Germany (see Göbel, H.: Wandteppiche, Leipzig, 1934, part III, vol. II, fig. 100 b).
