Lot Essay

The shape and carving of these pendants suggest that they were originally used as terminal pendants for court rosaries. Cf. a pair of ringed pendants on a rosary in the National Palace Museum, Taibei, illustrated in Catalogue of the Exhibition of Ch'ing Dynasty Costume Accessories, p. 140, pl. 68.
