Cast as the lowered head of a bovine beast with flaring nostrils, pricked ears and horns, supported on two hooves, the circular rim cast in relief with a band of key-fret, brownish patina, wood stand, box

Lot Essay
The rhyton shape was introduced to China from the west, and early pottery examples frequently teminate in bird's heads. Later bronze rhytons, however, are more often formed as bovine heads.
