A THREE-CASE INRO
With signature Yoyusai, Edo Period (19th Century)
Gold lacquer ground; decoration in gold, aokin, silver and coloured hiramaki-e, togidashi-e and takamaki-e, with gold foil; compartments and risers gold nashiji; shoulders and rims gold lacquer; with signature in gold hiramaki-e on the base Yoyusai saku [made by Yoyusai]; lacquered box netsuke decorated with two fans in takamaki-e against a nashiji ground

On one side Choryo (in Chinese: Chang Liang) recovering a lost sandal from a stream; and on the other the Daoist sage Kosekiko (Huangshigong) rewarding Choryo with a scroll of military and political secrets
