His paintings strive to preserve the precious, sometimes ordinary moments in art, the wonder of our surroundings manifests itself in the rich detail and delicate technique of D.J.'s pieces. He has participated in a number of national exhibitions as well as invitational shows at many prestigious galleries. In 1996, he won the South Carolina Duck Stamp contest, the youngest winner in its history. D.J. and his wife frequently complete treks to gather reference and deepen their understanding of wildlife. "Spending time in the wilderness studying the environment and the wildlife not only inspires me to capture the beauty and vitality of Nature, but drives me to protect it."
