A study for the right centre panel of 'The Empire Marketing Board Series'. Commissioned in 1929 as a series of designs on the theme of Industry and Peace to be made into posters, the five paintings were put into store until purchased by Sir Edward Beddington-Behrens in 1932. The series was later partially broken up, and three of the group 'The Hat Stand', 'The Anthracite Stove' and 'Cutting the Cloth' were purchased by Wilfrid Evill during the 1940s.
