Lot Essay

The Turkish Feast of Bayram is at the end of Ramadan, corresponding to Eid or Id in other Islamic countries. It therefore moves each year with the date of Ramadan. In this peepshow the flowers would indicate a Summer Bayram, although it is likely that the scene is entirely fictitious, as it is usually celebrated as a family affair and not, as this scene indicates, as a public festival.
