Details
CORONELLI, Vincenzo (1650-1718). Isolario, descrittione Geografico-Historica de tutte l'isole del globo terracqueo tomo II dell' Atlante Veneto. Venice: 1696.

Volume II, part I only, 2° (490 x 350mm). Engraved allegorical frontispiece 'Gli Argonauti', engraved isolario lettered leaf, additional engraved title, engraved title in red and black, 81 engraved plates, plans, portraits and views of Italy, the Archipelago and Dalmatia, many double-page, including the folding panorama of Venice, the maps of Malta and Crete and the series of coastal sea charts, one engraved globe gore sheet of Russia and the Middle East, 128 small engraved illustrations comprising plans, views and portraits of Italy and Greece. (A few marginal stains and several small wormtracks affecting outer margins of the first few leaves, panorama of Venice slightly shaved at lower right margin, one plate trimmed and mounted on verso of a map.) Contemporary Italian mottled calf, red speckled edges (head of spine chipped, extremities lightly rubbed).

A fine copy of the first part of volume 2 of the Atlante Veneto, including many of Coronelli's most attractive maps of the Mediterranean, particularly the two-sheet map of Crete and the map of Malta. Although only one map is accorded to Pierre Mortier, the series of charts has probably been copied directly from Dutch sources.
