FRENCH SCHOOL - Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island [Laccadie and Isle Royale]. France: c.1755.

Manuscript chart of Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island, ink and wash on paper, on two sheets, joined overall, 1600 x 850mm. The chart extending from Bay Francoise (Bay of Fundy) around Nova Scotia to Cape Breton Island and incorporating part of Prince Edward Island, annotated with principal headlands, anchorages, islands and sandbanks, numerous depth readings along the southern coast of Nova Scotia, land areas marked with principal rivers, bays and settlements, decorated with rhumb-lines, one compass rose and scale bar (slightly soiled, left margin shaved, folds strengthened on verso).

An interesting working chart of Nova Scotia and the approaches to the Gulf of St Lawrence, with contemporary annotation on verso 'Cartes Marinnes at plans de l'embouchure du fleuve St Lorient faitte pendant la campagne du Comte Deplas capitaine des Vaisseaux du Roi'.
