IMPERIAL HORSE
Scroll, mounted and framed, ink and colour on silk

Inscription above the painting dated first day, ninth month, third year of the Tianqi era (1459).
Inscription describing the painting as that of a horse sent as tribute to the Ming Yongle Emperor in 1422, and which became one of the Emperor's favourite horses. The horse was named Ziyan (purple swallow), and a portrait of it was commissioned by the Emperor, who also had a poem composed in the Ziyan's honour. The poem was also inscribed above the painting.
One seal: Guang Yun Zhi Bao
Titleslip dated autumn, guiyou year in the Tongzhi era (1873), with one seal
