Lot Essay

The present lot is a preliminary study for the charcoal drawing Het Ballonnenvrouwtje from 1930, now in the collection of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam (exh.cat. Herman Kruijder, gedoemde scheppingen, Frans Halsmuseum, Haarlem 1996, no. 8.62). The standing nude is also represented in the impressive central panel of the triptych Lente from 1930-31 (cat.no. 4.13), also in the Stedelijk Museum.
