Lot Essay

Tatsuke Takamasu worked in Edo in the second half of the 18th century. He continued the family practice of producing inro in unusual shapes, such as the one, formerly in the Kroch collection, in the shape of a mokugyo bell. Besides lacquering inro, Takamasu also did netsuke and combs.
He was most famous for his multi-coloured togidashie lacquering.
