A RARE EARLY GILT BRASS PRE-BALANCE SPRING OCTAGONAL CLOCKWATCH WITH STACKFREED
German, maker's initials .VS., circa 1580.
later silvered dial with Roman numerals, single steel hand, covered by a pierced hinged cover, octagonal movement with gilt plates, steel motion and strikework with open springs, verge foliot escapement with dumb-bell balance, steel stackfreed, hog's bristle regulation, countwheel striking on a bell, latches for securing to case, octagonal case with moulded band, pierced hinged back cover, turned finials and suspension loop, 50mm x 42mm.
