Lot Essay

Major Charles Ellison Terrot was born in 1841 and entered the Army as an Ensign with the 63rd Foot in 1859. Promoted to Lieutenant in 1861, he served as Adjutant between 1866 and 1867 before being promoted to Captain. Attaining the rank of Major in 1877, he transferred to the Shropshire Light Infantry in 1878, afterwards serving in the Egypt operations of 1882.
