Private Arthur James King, D.C.M., was born in Cambridgeshire and enlisted in the Grenadier Guards in March 1895, aged 19 years. In a subsequent career spanning 12 years with the Colours, his only active service was that of the Boer War, during which he was awarded the D.C.M. and was Mentioned in Despatches for his services in the 3rd Battalion (London Gazette 10.9.1901 refers). King was discharged in early 1907.
