Not appearing until 1903, the Buick was a relatively late starter in the American motor industry. Founder David Buick quickly ran into money problems and William Crapo Durant gained control of this company, boosting production and profits. In 1908, Buick became a founder member of the General Motors corporation and the company's early success was built on a series of reliable 22hp flat twin models. By 1910 the arrival of the new and quickly-proven durable four-cylinder types, all with David Buick's pioneering overhead valves, had allowed the company to mark out a secure place in the medium-price market. Initially, General motors prospered, with Buick's production figures, in particular, soaring upwards. The four cylinder 30hp Model 17 came along in 1910 as part of what was now an impressive nine model range and in that year, production was boosted to a rewarding 30,525 cars. This is a remarkably original example of this sturdy capable and capacious touring car.

Although it was repainted some 30 years ago the deep button-back leather upholstery was carefully preserved on this attractive bodywork, which bears an original brass plate inscribed "The Selden Licensed Patent-1895". Another feature is the original brass acetylene headlamps by the Corcoran Company Inc. The car is in exceptionally sound condition; the engine is free, and although is has not run for a few years, nevertheless has been carefully maintainted and should just require a straightforward check-over before use on the road. No duties are payable on the vehicle, but for UK usage it will need to be road registered with the DVLA at Swansea.
