Although the sitter in this relief has traditionally been identified as Henri II (1519-59), the more oval face and pointed beard could also be meant to represent Henri II's son, Henri III (1551-89).

A CIRCULAR IVORY RELIEF OF A FRENCH KING ENTHRONED, PREVIOUSLY IDENTIFIED AS HENRI II
French, 16th Century style
The king depicted seated, flanked on each side by an angel pulling back a swathe of drapery, his feet each on the back of a reclining lion, made of four pieces of ivory mounted on a wood ground, with a later silver frame with suspension loop and splayed metal support to the revers, (very minor losses to bottom edge)
