Lot Essay

Edward Clegg Wilkinson was a London based painter of landscapes, portraits and genre. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1884-1904 and also at the Society of British Artists and at the New Water-Colour Society. One of his largest and most impressive works Spring-Piccadilly, is in the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle-upon-Tyne (see C. Wood, Victorian Panoramas, London, 1976, p. 151, no. 160, illustrated).
