Lot Essay

The artist produced a series of bronze rolling over horses in 1978 and 1980: 'My watercolours and drawings, which I always do in series, are studies for my sculpture. In this way, I can get the feel of a new theme which I can then express in series of sculptures' (Elisabeth Frink Watercolours, Drawings and Sculpture, catalogue for the Maltzahn Gallery exhibition, London, 1974, p. 2).
