Near-contemporary green morocco gilt, g.e., by Hayday (worn). Provenance: John Deakin Heaton (armorial bookplate, various inscriptions, including presentation inscription from Sir Edward Belcher); William Beebe (bookplate).

ASSOCIATION COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION. Belcher, under whose command this voyage was undertaken and who had been a participant in the search for Franklin, presented the volume to the naturalist William Beebe, author of the monumental monograph on Pheasants. The four parts of the present work are by J.E.Gray on Vertebrata (with 8 coloured plates); Sir J.Richardson on Fishes (with 10 uncoloured plates); Adams and L.Reeve on Mollusca (with 23 coloured and one uncoloured plate) and Adams and A.White on Crustacea (with 4 coloured and 9 uncoloured plates).
