A CROW BEADED HIDE SADDLE, HEADSTALL, AND SADDLE BLANKET
the saddle, of openwork wood frame covered with red-pigmented hide, with high circular pommel and cantle and hide covered wood stirrups each with ornamented flaps suspended below, pommel flaps, one sinew sewn in white, greasy yellow, two shades of blue, and various red beads in geometrical motifs, the other, with bands of red and blue wool and muslin backing, stirrup flaps decorated with applied red wool and similar beadwork; the headstall, of typical form with red-pigmented hide straps along the cheeks, a cross strap over the head and a circular forehead pendant with triangular tab attached, sinew sewn in white, orange, yellow, red, green, and three shades of blue, decorated with a star motif and stacked triangles below, edged in red, blue, and pink yarn tassels, metal bit and braided horsehair reins; the saddle blanket, constructed of canvas, trapezoid-shaped, with beaded red wool bands on three sides in various shades of translucent and opaque beads, decorated with alternating fields of floral and geometrical elements, with sligthly flaring tabs similarly beaded and hide fringe at two corners
