JUDY GARLAND WEDDING GOWN FROM "THE HARVEY GIRLS"
MGM, 1946
A creme-colored silk wedding gown with ornate puffy shoulders, lace sleeves and lace trim on the front accompanied by a veil with an attached faux flower-adorned cap. Though now in extremely fragile condition with rips and tears throughout and the original bottom trim removed (likely altered for a later MGM film), this piece is still instantly recognizable as being the dress Judy first shows the girls on the train and then wears at the end of the film when she finally gets her man. A handwritten cloth label sewn into the zipper lining reads 1348-9123 Judy Garland and a black and white blown-up photograph of a smiling Garland attired in the gown is included as well.
Provenance
This costume was first sold at the now famous 1970 MGM Auction and still has the original David Weisz lot tag attached; Lot W-345, Page 17 in the "Star Wardrobe" catalogue.
