Private James Coomber, also a veteran of the Punjab Campaign, where he was killed in action at the Battle of Chilianwala, appears to be the same man referred to in Sergeant Pearman's Memoirs:
'One of the men of our Regiment, named Cumber, was taken prisoner. He was stripped naked for their sport, and when naked and being hunted about for sport, he managed to run from them. They fired several times at him, he said. But they missed him. He came to Ludhiana about 10 at night naked. He found his way by following the noise on our march' (Entry for 21.1.1846 at Badowal refers).
