A PAIR OF WILLIAM IV MAHOGANY HALL STOOLS
Each stamped 'I STRATFORD' and almost certainly by John Stratford of Gloucester
Each with rectangular dished seat above a frieze panelled to one side, on reeded sabre legs, stamped twice 'I. STRATFORD', one with paper label inscribed in ink 'Waterloo stool MacLAGAN', the other with remains of a similar label

John Stratford is recorded as a cabinetmaker and upholder from Gloucester and is noted as trading in Blackfriars in 1830 and in Southgate Street in 1839 (G. Beard & C. Gilbert (eds.), The Dictionary of English Furniture Makers, Leeds, 1986, p. 861).
