Lot Essay
Rudolph Ackermann (d. 1834) illustrated a 'Library Reading Chair' invented by Morgan and Saunders of Catherine Street, Strand, in his Repository of Arts, September 1810 (pl. 15, p. 182). It was described as a 'novel article', with 'circling arms' which 'form a pleasant easy back, and also, in every direction, supports for the arms.' (P.
