Provenance
From the J. Pierpont Morgan Coleection.
See Herbert Satterlee, J. Pierpont Morgan, An Intimate Portrait, New York, 1939, p. 434, where he describes the visit on July 16, 1906, of King Edward VII to tea at J. Pierpont Morgan's home at Prince's Gate. "His Majesty seemed very much pleased with a richly ornamental gold chalice-shaped vase made in India and liberally studded with precious stones. This had perhaps been a gift from one Maharajah to another or to some Viceroy or Secretary for India or something of the kind."
