the bisque arms with kid over wood ball joints at shoulders and original white muslin dressing gown, paisley shawl, underclothes, stockings and boots marked with the shop stamp, in original box from Au Calife de Bagdad, 14 Rue de Choiseuil, the body attached to a replacement shoulder head by Ceramica Furga of Canneto sull' Oglio, Mantua -- 16in. (41cm.) high, box inscribed (finger on right hand damaged); and a later paper parasol
Provenance
Princess Mathilde Bonaparte was born in Trieste on 27th May 1820, the daughter of Jerome, King of Westphalia and Princess Katharina von Wuerttemberg. On 1st November 1840 she married Prince Demidov of San Donato Anatole but they had no children. It is possible that she gave the doll to her neice Princess Maria Laetitia Eugenia, daughter of Prince Napoleon, Joseph, Charles, Paul and Princess Clothilde of Sardinia. Maria was born in the Palais Royale on 20th December 1866 and married in Turin in 1888, she died on 25th October 1926.
