Modelled by Boizot with two finely dressed ladies, gossiping and looking over their left shoulders with their arms embraced, on a circular plinth base (fingers of one hand and index finger of another lacking, chipping to edge of base, slight firing cracks)

Lot Essay

This model was first modelled by Louis-Simon Boizot in 1789. See Émile Bourgeois and Geo. Lechevallier-Chevignard, Le Biscuit de Sèvres, p. 36, no. 478 for an illustrated example of this model.

Boizot (1743-1809), who had studied sculpture under Slodtz in Rome, was the chief sculptor at Sèvres from 1773-1800.
