[c.1870] A 12-inch (30.5cm.) diameter terrestrial library globe made up of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores and two polar calottes, each printed with an hour dial, the equatorial graduated in degrees in both directions, hours and minutes, the Greenwich meridian ungraduated, the anti-meridian graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days of the houses of the Zodiac, the oceans showing an analemma, two submarine telgraphic cable lines in the North Atlantic and the tracks of numerous explorers with dates including Cook, Vancouver, Gore, Wilkes, Hon. C. Phipps, La Perouse, Clerke, Furneaux, Columbus, de Gama, the Resolution, and the Hecla and the Fury, with further notes such as The Ordinary Course of the Gulf Stream off Florida, 1775 since found to consist of a number of small Islands & Rocks by the Sandwich Group in the South Atlantic, and The scene of Napoleon's imprisonment and death by St Helena, the Antarctic with some coastline, labelled Land Discovered by Capt. Wilkes of the U.S. Ship Vincennes, also showing Enderbys Land and a note reading Lat. 74°.15'. Point reached by Mr.Weddell of the Brig Jane of Lieth on the 20th.Feby.1823 being 3°.5'. farther South than Captain Cook, a note in the North Pacific reading The Pacific Ocean was discovered by Balboa in 1513. First navigated by Magellan in 1520. It extends from North to South 7.500 miles and from East to West 10.000 miles, an extensive note in the Southern Indian Ocean describing the demarcation of Malaysia, Australasia and Polynesia in relation to the erstwhile demarcations of Oceanica, the continents with some nation states delicately shaded a very pale green and showing numerous details such as towns, cities, rivers, mountains and the Great Wall of China, Alaska labelled ALASKA TERRITORY, Tasmania labelled TASMANIA OR VAN DIEMENS LAND, Greenland with no northern coastline (some neat areas of redrawing and repaired crack in Saudi Arabia and Turkey, other small neat repairs, areas of discolouration, repaired cracks around North and South Poles), with engraved brass meridian circle, the copied paper horizon ring edged in red with some hand-colouring, graduated in degrees in both directions, days of the month and of the houses of the Zodiac, with compass directions, raised on four curved stained oak quadrant supports to baluster turned central column and three inswept legs -- 35½in.
