A 12-inch (30.5cm.) diameter terresrtrial table globe, the cartouche for J.L. Hammett & Co. overlaid, probably made originally in England by W.& A.K. Johnston in Scotland for Weber Costello in Chicago, made up of twelve chromolithographed gores, the equatorial graduated in degrees and hours, the Greenwich Meridian graduated in degrees but unlabelled, the equinoctial colure graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days of the month and of the houses of the Zodiac, the oceans with an analemma and showing Length of a degree of Longitude along each Latitude circle, Circumference of each Latitude circle and Distance through the earth (Diameter of each Latitude circle) and with a note and diagram reading The curvature of the earth's surface per mile is about 8 inches (very faded), also with isothermal lines for January and July with temperatures in Fahrenheit, warm and cold ocean currents and oceanic flora, the box outlining these labelled COPYRIGHT, G.W. BACON & Co. Ltd, London, the Antarctic with notes reading AMUNDSEN 24 DEC 1911 and SCOTT 18 JAN 1912, the North Pole with a note reading PEARY 6 APRIL 1909, the continents with nation states delicately coloured in outline in yellow, green, pink and orange, and showing towns, cities, railway lines, rivers and the Great Wall of China, Russia showing Petrograd, Austro-Hungary shown undivided (generally faded, some rubbing, some small detail loss), atop a cast bronze tripod stand with foliate decoration and lion's paw feet -- 20½in. (52.1cm.) high
