Lot Essay
A drawing of the same size, signed and dated in a similar way to this drawing, is at the Yale University Art Gallery and was exhibited at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, Drawings & Watercolors, 1978, no. 5, illustrated. In the early 1760's Robert executed a number of red chalk views on the same type of sheets as that of the present drawing; a few of these were included in the Washington exhibition, op. cit., nos. 3, 6, 10-14, 18-20, illustrated.
