MASTERWORKS FROM WALT DISNEY PICTURES' FANTASIA/2000 When my uncle, Walt Disney and my dad, Roy founded the Disney Studios 75 years ago, one of their fundamental beliefs was that animation had potential beyond the mere "cartoon." In 1940, Walt redefined the world's view of animation with "Fantasia," which married the limitless possibilities of animation to the inspiration of great music. Walt's vision was to create a continually evolving film event, building upon the original film by updating it with new pieces of classical music and animation. "Fantasia/2000" makes this dream a reality by creating seven new dazzling and innovative animated segments set to the music of Beethoven, Respighi, Gershwin, Shostakovich, Saint-Saëns, Elgar, and Stravinsky, while honoring the original by also including the best-loved piece from the 1940 film - Paul Dukas' "The Sorcerer's Apprentice." In celebration of the release of "Fantasia/2000," and taking Walt's vision even one step further, The Walt Disney Studio, in association with Walt Disney Art Classics, commissioned the creation of a collection of spectacular one-of-a-kind works of art called "Fantasia/2000" Masterworks. Working with world-renowned artists, artisans and craftspeople, such as Cartier, Mikimoto, Tiffany & Co. and Harry Winston, each "Masterwork" was designed to celebrate the creative spirit and legacy behind "Fantasia/2000." I have a great feeling of pride and excitement at having fulfilled Walt's vision for Fantasia. I am gratified and exhilarated with the attended celebrations that "Fantasia 2000" has inspired. Sincerely, Roy Edward Disney
