A late 19th-Century lacquered-brass compound monocular microscope,
signed on the horseshoe stand Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. ROCHESTER, N.Y. & NEW YORK CITY., and engraved 18888 on an applied lacquered-brass button on the stand, with rack and pinion focusing and micrometer fine adjustment, the nickel-plated triple nose-piece also by Bausch & Lomb, with vulcanite stage, sub-stage condenser adjusted by worm-gear and arranged to swivel when not in use, and plano-concave mirror, the body limb with axis and compass joint on truncated pillar support, with a set of three eyepieces and three objectives, the cans marked (x 2) and 2/3, and a second 2/3 can, the mahogany carrying case with accessory drawer containing a quantity of slide-making tools and other items, the case with carrying handle -- 15in. (38cm.) high
