A Swiss gilt-brass grande sonnerie carriage clock with date and alarm
J.F. BAUTTE & CIE, GENÈVE. Third quarter 19th century
The cariatides case with Renaissance figures of a huntsman and a lady mounted in niches to each angle, elaborately cast overall with running scroll designs and with a handle formed from conjoined putti, the sides with engraved trellis panels overlaid on (later) blue glass, the white enamel Roman dial signed J.F. BAUTTE & CIE. GENÈVE, fine blued steel moon hands, with subsidiary rings below for date and alarm, the twin barrel movement with engraved platform and bridge for the Jules type lever escapement, with engraved racks and snail planted on a backplate with engraved borders, with strike/repeat on two gongs and alarm on bell, all housed in the base
