A French brass and porcelain-mounted striking and repeating carriage clock
No.1832. Fourth quarter 19th century
The bambu case mounted with porcelain side and rear panels, the side panels painted with a Japanese gentleman with swords and a lady respectively, on cream grounds with raised gilt trees, buildings and birds, the rear panel with painted birds amidst branches, panels with rubbing to gilt, the conforming dial decorated with a man eating from a rice bowl on a balcony, with mountains and a lake behind him, black painted Roman chapters, rubbed retail signature, with blued steel moon hands, the twin barrel movement with silvered platform to the bimetallic balance with lever escapement, strike/repeat on gong to the backplate numbered 1832
