A Victorian gilt-brass travel timepiece with calendar
JC, probably James Ferguson Cole, no. a/314. Second quarter 19th century
The engine-turned case with outset faceted columns to the angles, terminating in spike finials, with S-scroll and faceted handle, the base inset with patinated panels, on hemispherical feet, with patinated brass detachable rear door, the case stamped JC twice and the door once, the silver dial with engine-turned centre and radially engraved Roman chapter ring, recessed seconds dial below XII, with blued steel moon hands, with silver subsidiary dials below for day of week and date, the single barrel movement with later vertically positioned cut bimetallic compensated balance with lever escapement, signed on the backplate London and numbered a over 314
